There were several stages to this site. The first that I was involved in was restructuring the home page and then reworking how the “Take Action” signup process worked to fit the needs of the client. This involved adding new pages to the form, reworking the database, and building several WordPress plugins to allow the DB tables to be viewed and edited inside of WordPress. The last stage was updating the allowing visitors to send a pre-formatted message to their local representative.

The end result: Hoosiers can now purchase alcohol on Sundays.

PROJECT GOAL

The Alliance of Responsible Alcohol Retailers (ARAR) is an organization comprised of convenience, drug and grocery stores involved in the retailing of alcoholic beverages in the State of Indiana. The ARAR and its statewide grassroots coalition, Hoosiers for Beverage Choices, believe changes need to be made to Indiana’s outdated alcoholic beverage laws. Our goal is to bring Indiana’s liquor laws into the 21st century by ensuring Hoosiers are provided convenience, real choices, and competitive pricing while maintaining regulations that prevent minors from accessing alcohol.

For these reasons, the Indiana Petroleum Council, the Indiana Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association, and the Indiana Retail Council support ARAR and Hoosiers for Beverage Choices along with their mission to responsibly serve their customers and communities across Indiana.

RESULT

Indiana is becoming the 41st state to allow Sunday liquor sales, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States. The new law will allow an estimated 3,800 liquor stores, groceries, pharmacies and convenience stores to sell any alcohol products between noon and 8 p.m. on Sundays.
